Daba Sarr

Director, Africa Fête, Senegal

Chairperson of the Senegalese Tringa Musiques et Développement Association which spearheads the Africa Day festival in Senegal. The Festival started thirty years ago and has travelled in different worlds, with several editions in Europe (20) and the USA (6), before landing in Africa in 1994. It is a festival dedicated to African music and to discovering young talents. This well-attended and highly-reputed festival provides a musical platform for promising young African talent.
The first Senegalese edition was held in 2001 in Senegal’s capital Dakar, before being decentralised to other parts of the country and then travelling around Africa. It is held in Senegal every December.
The French edition is organized every June by the Cola Production association based in Marseille.
Over time, the Festival has become a well-known meeting-place for Senegalese people and Africans in general. Rokhaya Daba Sarr has directed the festival since the death of Mamadou Konté, the label’s founder.
