Vincent Carry

Director, Arty Farty - Nuits Sonores, France

A player in the independent music scene from 1988 to 1997, Vincent Carry became a cinema, arts and political journalist in 1997. He became head of Arty Farty in 2002 and created the Nuits Sonores (Sound Nights) Festival in 2003. The first edition attracted nearly 16,000 spectators in the heart of the city of Lyon. A decade later, it now attracts more than 130,000.

In 2007, Vincent Carry coordinated Lyon’s candidacy for European Capital of Culture 2013.
A year later, he became artistic adviser to the Gaîté Lyrique project in Paris, three years before the place opened in March 2011. Also in 2011, Nuits Sonores (Sound Nights) is officially approved and supported by the European Union, allowing implementation of the European Lab project, an international forum dedicated to the future of culture.
In 2013, he created the Culture Next company and the Sugar, an independent arts centre located on the rooftop of a 1930 building called the Sucrière. The following year, he approached Arty Farty and the Parisian firm Alias to found a new production company called AKA.

2015 is the year of the launch of We Are Europe, a large-scale European cooperation project supported by the European Union, which brings together eight festivals and forums in an exchange and joint creation programme for three years, led by Arty Farty. He is working on the Hotel 71 project creative hub that will open its doors in 2017.
